Avoid Underlining for Emphasis

Underlining text for emphasis is considered bad form in web design.

Why? Because users will mistake the underlined text for a link and click on it. When they do so and nothing happens, they are apt to click on the underlined text again—and again and again—thinking maybe they didn't click in the right place. After several attempts, they will wonder what is in that link that they are missing.

The end result? Aggravation. And a loss of credibility. In short, users will be encouraged to not come back to your website in the future. (And unhappy users tell their friends.)
