What Is an Alt Attribute?

Employing the ALT attribute is one of the simplest ways to boost rankings on a web site; however, it is more often than not overlooked in the design process.

Attributing a name to an image is easy (see the image at right); simply substitute the name of the image (blank spaces are allowed) within the quotation marks. Consider employing three-word combinations in your alt attribute so as to make the title as specific as possible. This allows you to receive the maximum benefit from the search engines.

Also, try not to duplicate identical ALT attributes: assigning a unique ALT attribute to each image will make your site more algorithm-friendly!
